Fighting Off Frizzy

Reason #184 why it's so hard for me to fight the frump: I was NOT blessed with good hair - but by golly, I have a ton of it. Think I can ever rock this look in style?

... Yeah, me either. (Damn it.) Thank goodness for my amazingly fantastic magic wand straightening iron. It's just too bad it takes me, like, an hour to take my 'fro from "before" to the much more presentable "after."

So you see why I can't be bothered to do it on the daily? I've got other important issues to attend to: like wiping butts. Cleaning mysterious smears off of things. Saying stuff like, "If you don't stop that ..." and "Dogs don't like pancakes - eat them yourself!" If I straightened my hair every day (not to mention took the time to put on makeup ... I hope these pictures didn't frighten you), I wouldn't be able to do those things. And then where would my kids be?

  1. My daughter uses a CHI TURBO (I just asked her) and it takes her 15 minutes to do her hair. She said to tell you that the kind of flat iron you gets makes all the difference.

    Your hair looks beautiful!

Half way there....Enjoy your Wednesday !

  2. Thank you! :)

I use a CHI, too, and it's amazing (not sure if it's a Turbo or not, but I know it cost me an arm and a leg!). It's soooo worth the investment though. I prize that thing like it's one of my kids! LOL

  3. I tried the chi, and burned my bangs off, so I gave in and do the Japanese thingy. But, oh so worth it! Never blow dry (didn't before either)! Like you, who has time! My poor daughter...looks like she has hair like mine..thick and wavy/frizzy.

  4. Oh, I would looooove to get the Japanese thermal straightening done - unfortunately, it's just not in the budget, so it's the CHI for me (and frizzy hair otherwise).

My kids have crazy hair too ... although they're like night and day. My oldest's hair is stick-straight and stands up all over the place, and my little one has these unruly curls.

  5. just wash your hair twice a week like I do. then taking the time to blowdry and make it look all pretty seems worth it because in theory the effects last for days! Especially if you can put it in a ponytail. mine is currently to short to put it in a ponytail, so I just get lovely grease monkey hair for a couple days until I realize I should maybe wash it again!

  6. Kate - that's typically what I do (lucky for me, it would take, like, a WEEK for my hair to look greasy 'cause it's so dry). But the thing that sucks is, I almost ALWAYS - without fail - run into some kind of circumstance that forces me to wash my hair, thus ruining my straightening job. Like a freak rainstorm ... or the baby using my ends as a Kleenex. Ugh.

  8. I can't even do mine without a team of highly trained stylists and precision equipment. It sucks. You'd think I'd just cut it so I wouldn't have to work through a crap load of curly-down-to-the-butt-cooky-crap, but I'm scared. I'm afraid of looking like Bozo the clown if I ever don't have time to straighten it. So, it's pretty much a repeat of bun, ponytail, braid for me every single day:(

  9. I would have never known you struggled with your hair, it always looks beautiful to me.

  10. Thanks girls! :) Yes ... I TOTALLY struggle with my hair. (And the sad part is, I didn't even know that straightening irons EXISTED until I was in my early 20s! Yikes!) I also do the bun/ponytail thing on the days when I don't have time to mess with it ... which is, like, almost always.

  11. My sister has the same problem with her hair and it takes her FOREVER to straighten it (which she actually does every day--no kids). She just recently started considering taking out a loan...um, I mean buying...a CHI. I'll pass on your positives about it.
Hey, if all else fails, maybe you could eventually go with dreads.
Your hair looks great, by the way!

  12. I have the same unruly hair. I also have a straightening iron. I love it. It just takes me nearly an hour to straighten my hair though.

  13. it's worth the straightening time -- pretty! tell the kids to watch tv...

  14. My hair is babyish fine and I used to dream of hair like yours. But I really like it being able to blow dry in very few minutes so maybe I should quit whining, especially after reading all these comments about how long it takes to fix the hair - whoa!

  15. Jennifer - the CHI is definitely expensive (I paid over $100 for mine, and it wasn't even the top-of-the-line model) but seriously worth it if you've got hair like ... well, a Brillo pad. Plus if she does it every day, a CHI does less damage than a cheap straightening iron (my old one FRIED my ends, and the CHI doesn't as bad).

Amber - don't you hate that it takes so long? It irritates me that I have to spend an hour on my stupid hair, that I could be using to do something else!

Shelly - thanks! :) It does look decent (for about a day) after the straightening ... but man, is it an ordeal to get it that way.

LBDDiaries - my sister's hair is the same way, really super fine, and she says she's jealous of mine. But personally, I envy her because her hair is dried and done in, like, a quarter of the time that mine is!
